Installation Guide


OMS Installation requires 3 simple steps.

  1. Check if your systems meets the requirements for supported OS, hardware configurations and required JAVA JDK installation. Upgrade your system if needed.
  2. Download and install OMS
  3. Check for updates at the OMS Update Center.

System Requirements

Operating Systems

OMS runs on operating systems that support the Java VM. Below is a list of platforms that OMS has been tested on.

  • Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP2
  • Solaris operating system (SPARC and x64 Platform Editions) version 10
  • Mac OS X 10.4.5 PPC
  • Red Hat EL 3 and 4

OMS also known to run on the following

  • Java Desktop System 2
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional SP4
  • Mac OS X 10.4.5 Intel
  • Various other Linux distributions
  • Open VMS 7.2-1 or later

Hardware Configurations

Note: OMS minimum screen resolution is 1024x768 pixels.

  • Microsoft Windows operating systems:
    • Processor: 500 MHz Intel Pentium III workstation or or better
    • Memory: >512 MB (optimal 1GB)
    • Disk: 50 MB of free disk space
  • Linux operating system:
    • Processor: 500 MHz Intel Pentium III workstation or better
    • Memory: >512 MB (optimal 1GB)
    • Disk: 50 MB of free disk space
  • Solaris OS (SPARC):
    • Processor: UltraSPARC II 450 MHz or better
    • Memory: >512 MB (optimal 1GB)
    • Disk: 50 MB of free disk space
  • Solaris OS (x86/x64 Platform
    • Processor: AMD Opteron 100 Series 1.8 GHz or better
    • Memory: >512 MB (optimal 1GB)
    • Disk: 50 MB of free disk space
  • Macintosh OS X operating system:
    • Processor: PowerPC G4 or better
    • Memory: >512 MB (optimal 1GB)
    • Disk: 50 MB of free disk space

Required Supporting Application Software

OMS is a 100% Java application. It runs on the J2SE JDK 6.0 (Java SE Development Kit), which consists of the Java Runtime Environment plus developer tools for compiling and running models written in the Java language.

You can download the JDK for your platform from one of the sites listed below:

OMS Installation

Download the most recent version of OMS (currently 2.0)

The preferred method of installing OMS is using the self-extracting installer. The installer runs on all supported platforms and requires the JDK to be installed.

To install OMS:

  1. Once you have downloaded the installer file, double-click the installer's icon to launch the installer.
  2. In the install wizard, respond to the License Agreement, then click Next.
  3. Specify an empty directory within which to install OMS ('Note: This OMS install will not disrupt the settings of your other OMS installations because the it automatically creates a new user directory when launched (${HOME}/.oms/2.0). Verify that the installation location is correct and that you have adequate space on your system for the installation.
  4. Accept the defaults for package installation, creation of desktop shortcut etc.
  5. Click Next to begin the installation.

Linux user need to execute the jar file from the command

  $java -jar oms-2.0jar

Start OMS

On Windows start OMS by double clicking on the OMS icon on your desktop to start OMS. From the Start menu, select OMS 2.0 > Object Modeling System. For Linux Users: Navigate to the bin subdirectory of your Installation and execute the launcher script by typing ./oms .

Auto Update OMS

Once OMS is started, it should connect to the OMS update center. You may encounter a pop up from from your PC firewall software about OMS making an outbound connection. If so, you will need to allow the outbound connection. Need to add more here on what to do once you get to the update center
