Erosion Soil Parameters (csip-erosion/d/soils/1.2)

Table of Contents

Description

Returns soils inside a polygon with percent area, and area in acres.
Reports availability of soil in CSIP for use in Rusle2 and WEPS erosion services.
If a file pointer is provided, then the soil exists and can be used for the model.

Rusle2 file pointer is indicated with the r2_r2name and r2_r2path attributes.
WEPS file pointer is indicated with the weps_name and weps_path attributes.

WEPS requires more soil survey data to be populated in SSURGO. Some soil records are incomplete and unavailable for WEPS.
When a WEPS soil is missing this indicates an incomplete ssurgo soil record. The national soil survey team should be contacted when data gaps exist:

Wes, Below are samples of how the NRCS planner community uses soils and view soils information.
I believe there is a consistent pattern.

AREASYMBOL, MUSYM are used as labels for display, MUKEY is used for correlation.
MUSYM, MUNAME, COMPNAME are used for presentation, MUKEY and COKEY are used for correlation.

Therefore I propose: The CSIP soils service must return:
MUKEY and COKEY to be used for correlation.

The CSIP soils service may return:
AREASYMBOL, MUSYM, MUNAME, COMPNAME to be used for presentation.

PER wind and PER water are being created and generated by a project being driven by Sharon Waltman in Morgantown, PA. She is working with Idaho National Labs to generate a GIS layer for the nation as a product - these PER values we be attributes of that layer. ITC/OMS-CSIP is not in control or aware of the progress of this creation effort - the last we heard they only had Nevada completed.

These two values (PER water and wind)are directly dependent on the soils properties - we are not sure if the base soils data they are using to generate PER is the same as those available in CSIP. Additionally, if the soils data is updated in the future - as we know it will be - these PER values also need to be regenerated. ITC does not know how that process will be handled and who will handle it.

OMS-CSIP can not currently supply PER (water or wind)- we do not know who/when/where they will be available.

Fixed problems with missing commas. Removed rock cover. Use SSURGO field names for SSURGO values, prefixed with "ssurgo_". Use lower case names with underscore separator, according to NRCS data naming standards.
